Prescott High School Hockey

Duty, Respect & Integrity

2009 - 2010

 Mission Statement:

Our mission is to provide Tri-city high school students an opportunity to participate in the exciting sport of Ice Hockey.  Ice hockey demands hard work, self-discipline, sacrifice for the team, and the development of new and challenging skills.  By learning to succeed on the ice, we believe our students will be better equipped to succeed as members of our community.

Program Priorities:

  1. Family
  2. Education
  3. Hockey

 Core Values:

  1. DUTY - Conduct or action required by one’s occupation or position.  As a member of the Prescott High School Hockey Program we have a duty to our teammates, parents/guardians, coaches, and fans to work hard and give 100% effort each and every time we lace up the skates.  We must be responsible for our actions on and off the ice.

  1. RESPECT  - To consider deserving of high regard.  As members of the Prescott Storm, we must show respect to teammates, referees, coaches, opponents, family members, fans, and to the game itself.  Respect means showing up on time.  Respect means recognizing the value in each and every player.  Respect means listening when others have something to say.  Respect means not arguing with a referee over a controversial call.  Respect means holding your head high when a superior team has outmatched you.

  1. INTEGRITY- Adherence to a code of values.  As a player, this is how you conduct yourself when no one is watching.  You represent your family, the team, and the community.  When you put your head on the pillow at night, you are the only one who knows if you truly gave it your best, every second of every shift, every stride.

 Team Rules:

  1. Game day arrival:  All players are required to be at games (home & away) 1 hour prior to the scheduled start time.  All players must participate in the pre-game off-ice warm up.  Tennis shoes, athletic shorts/sweats, and a team shirt/sweatshirt are required.  Players must be dressed, in the locker room, and ready for play 10 minutes prior to the start of the game.  Cell phones / Text Messaging will not be allowed during this one hour time frame.  Failure to do so will result in a one period suspension.

  1. Game day dress code:  Players must show up for games wearing slacks, button down shirt, and dress shoes.  No hats allowed.  Failure to do so will result in a one period suspension

  1. Game day equipment:  Players must arrive with both team issued jerseys on hangers, 2 pairs of team issued socks, 2 mouth guards, 2 fully functional sticks, as well as all other required gear.  Failure to do so will result in a one game suspension

  1. Game day after action review (AAR):  Players are required to actively participate in the team after action reviews.  Failure to do so will result in a one period suspension

  1. Practice arrival:  All players are required to be dressed and ready for practice 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.  Cell phones / Text Messaging will not be allowed during this 15 minute time frame.  Failure to do so will result in a one period suspension

  1. Practice equipment:  Players will be assigned practice jerseys of varying colors that must be worn as directed by the coaching staff.  Full equipment is required at all times.  Players are required to bring 2 sticks.  Failure to do so will result in a one period suspension

  1. Unexcused absence:  An unexcused absence is defined as missing a game or practice without notifying the head coach at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled event.  An unexcused absence will result in a one game suspension.  Injuries as determined by a doctor/parent or emergencies as determined by the coach will be the exception.  Players must be the ones to notify the head coach.

  1. Hockey conflicts:  We do not compete with other hockey programs.  The Prescott High School Hockey Program must be number one in your list of hockey priorities.  An absence due to conflict with another hockey program will be considered unexcused and will result in a one game suspension.

  1. School conflicts:  Players participating in other school related sports and/or activities must submit a schedule identifying potential conflicts to the coaching staff as soon a possible.  The 48-hour time frame will be enforced.  Failure to do so will result in a one game suspension.

  1. Conduct:  Unacceptable behavior (fighting, profanity, poor sportsmanship, hazing, harassment…) as determined by the coaching staff will result in disciplinary action.  Complete player attention is expected during all team functions.  Negative comments, actions, or attitudes towards teammates, coaches, and parents, or other teams are unacceptable.  The penalty for conduct violations may range from a one period suspension – dismissal from the team

  1. Playing time:  It is a privilege to be part of this hockey team, not a right.  Playing time is not guaranteed to be equal at Varsity level.  Playing time must be earned through hard work and adherence to the rules, values and principles outlined in this handbook.  While equal playing time is the goal at the JV level, it is not necessarily guaranteed.  Players must follow the rules and embrace the values and principles found in this guide.

  1. Parent conference:  As a parent, your first reaction to a possible conflict/issue, should not be calling the coach.  Have your son/daughter talk with a captain or the head coach first.  The head coach will talk with parents regarding conflicts/issues, but only if the player is present at the meeting.  If a meeting is warranted, it must take place 24 hours after the conflict/issue occurred.  Meetings will not be scheduled before or after games.

*All suspensions must be served from the bench*
