Guidelines for the 2007-2008 Season.

In keeping with the status as a club team sport, the coaches and managers have adopted the following policies regarding attendance at team events:

Modified 10/9/07 - SK

    I.             ICE PRACTICES / PRE-SEASON GAMES / GAMES

All on-ice events are mandatory.  It is expected that players will make every effort to attend.  However, because of the long season and the difficulties involved in travel, etc. a player may miss up to two of these events without being subject to disciplinary action provided a valid excuse (approved by the coaching staff) is given with as much advance notice as practical

EXAMPLES OF VALID EXCUSES:

-Acute debilitating illness where the coach is notified before the event– (i.e. a Flu virus that keeps a player sick in bed, not a simple cold)

-Planned family event in which the staff is provided more than 48 hours notice of the absence

-Mandatory school event in which the staff is provided more than 48 hours notice of the absence

 EXCEPTIONS:

Injury:  Injured players will not be subject to disciplinary action for missing ice events

Long Illness:  Any diagnosed illness where the player is advised by a physician not to participate in practices or games

Late-notice event:  If a player has less than one-week’s notice of an on-ice event and cannot attend, that event will not count against the two.

 DISCIPLINARY ACTION:

In the event a player has no valid excuse, or misses the third such event with an excuse, he or she may be subject to a one game suspension for that missed event and each subsequent event.  Alternatively, the coaches may develop an "additional work" requirement that may involve mandatory dry land attendance, partial game suspension, or both a partial game suspension and mandatory dry land training.

Suspensions will be served at the next game that, in the opinion of the coaching staff, being short the suspended player will have the least negative effect on the team.  However, the suspension must be served within the subsequent three games.

A suspended player MUST, however, show up and be prepared to play in any game, including those for which he or she is officially suspended.

II.                   OFF - ICE EVENTS / DRY LAND TRAINING:

Again, all players are expected to attend as many of these events as possible.  However, there will be no special disciplinary action for players that do not attend unless the dry land practice is part of a disciplinary action.  Players must be aware, however, that these events are designed to improve the player’s ability and the team’s performance.  Missing these events may indirectly lead to reduced playing time during games.

III.                  NOTICES:

Notices will be via the team web site and / or E-mail.  Team members must check the website for scheduling information.  If they do not have web access, they must take the responsibility for getting in touch with someone who does.  Managers and coaches will not, as a rule, call players to let them know of upcoming events.

In the event a player is unable to attend an on-ice event, he or she must personally provide notice to the head coach via E-mail or telephone.
